TERROR IN THE DARK, RAPID CITY, SD
2011 VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES (Printer Friendly: 2 pages)
Thank you for your willingness to give your time and talent to making 2011 Terror in the Dark
Haunted House a huge success. Some of you have been with us since our beginnings in '98, while
some of you are brand new. Regardless of your experience, we believe you will find excitement,
adventure, and loads of fun awaiting you in Terror in the Dark. Your efforts are critical to our scaring
the yell out of people!
As you may or may not know, we are a non-profit organization focused on helping children's
organizations in the Rapid City area. Over the years we have contributed to the Boys and Girls Clubs of
Rapid City, over 1,000 lbs. of canned food to the BH Regional Food Bank, and monies to the
Children's Rescue Mission, Stevens High School Art Dept., BH Community Theater, youth programs,
and many more.
Because we count on volunteers to pull together this annual event, we want to review the responsibilities
of all volunteers.
1) Follow through on your commitments. This is extremely important. Whether you are building a
prop, tracking down a contribution of some kind, staffing a room (acting), or helping with clean-up, we
rely on people to do what they say they will do. When one person doesn't show up, everyone and
everything else can get thrown off. So, please, commit only to that which your can complete. If you
need help, or something unexpected occurs which will effect the completion of your commitment please
notify us immediately.
2) If you are under 18 years old you MUST have a parent/guardian sign the Authorization For
Minor Child Participant form. This must be submitted before any participation is allowed.
3) Please attend all meetings and be on time. If this is not possible, make other arrangements with
your team leader. The required meeting for volunteers is Saturday, October 1st, 2011 at Rapid City
Public Library, 1st floor, Hoyt Room at 10 a.m. in Rapid City, SD. Subsequent meetings will then be
scheduled if necessary. If this meeting has passed you will still be able to participate. To get a head start
on paper work visit the "Steps..." webpage.
4) Come prepared to work.
Construction of the house:
SET-UP: Thursday, October 13th thru 19th, 2011.
TEAR DOWN: Tuesday, Nov. 1st and Wednesday, Nov. 2nd 2011 only.
5) If you are staffing a room or working inside the house:
-Arrive at 5:45 p.m., in costume (if possible).
-Please eat prior to your arrival. Pack a snack for later in the evening, if necessary.
-Bring a labeled, full water bottle. Screaming and other sound effects can be hard on your throat!
-Bring dark gloves and a labeled flash light.
-Wear comfortable shoes. (It is a cement floor.)
-You may need a jacket, depending on weather.
-We will try to honor your requests as much as possible, but please be willing to do anything that is
asked of you. (Not to worry, we are reasonable people!)
6) Appreciation Party!!
Check the Volunteers' Corner page for the place and time of the party. We'll be handing out
appreciation awards, gifting money to the participating charities. Food and drink will be provided.
Everyone is encouraged and welcomed to come!!!
